City of Hartford Parking Violations
Parking violations are determined by the City of Hartford’s Municipal Code. Per Sec 22-26 of the municipal code, “the words ‘park’ and ‘parked’ shall mean to leave a vehicle stationary.”
Each parking violation currently in effect is listed below with a description, fine amount, and unpaid citation penalties (late fees).
This citation is assessed to a vehicle parked in a location that is not designated as metered but has posted signage with a parking duration limit that has exceeded that parking duration.
- Initial fine $25
- First late fee $38 ($63 total)
- Second late fee $38 ($101 total)
This citation is assessed to a vehicle parked in a location designated as metered within effective hours that paid for a parking session but parked in that location for a period of time exceeding the parking session duration.
The Over Limit at Meter citation would apply for two (2) hours following the parking session expiration, after which the Meter NonPayment citation would apply.

This citation is assessed to a vehicle parked more than twelve inches (12”) from a curb. In an area with parking space pavement markings, this citation will not be assessed if the vehicle is parked within the limits of the parking space as designated by the pavement markings.

This citation is assessed to a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the street or opposing the flow of traffic. Generally, vehicles in the City of Hartford must park in the direction of traffic on the right side of the street, except where parking is permitted in the direction of traffic on the left side of a one way street.

This citation is assessed to a vehicle parked within ten feet (10’) of a fire hydrant. While some hydrants have designated pavement markings to indicate not to park in that location, the pavement markings are not required for a citation to be validly issued.

This citation is assessed to a tractor, tractor-trailer, trailer, tractor-trailer unit, semi-trailer, commercial vehicle combination or box truck parked on City streets other than for the purpose of active delivery, unloading, or service. Documentation must be provided to verify active delivery, unloading, or service.
